So Many Doctors Visits!

Well we are two weeks into Sofia's first chemo treatment. It has been a bit easier than we were expecting which has been a blessing. We are sure it is from all of the many prayers that have been said for Sofia. She isn't able to take the latest drugs for the chemo side effects due to her pregnancy but the older safer drugs seem to be working so far.

She hasn't experienced very much nausea although she has had some severe cramping which was a bit scary. We were afraid she might go into labor those first few nights. Then she was feeling better and they gave her a shot to boost her white blood cell count. This seemed to cause her some severe bone pain for a few days, but that has passed now as well. She is very tired but is mostly comfortable, especially now that the mastectomy and port sites are mostly healed.

They told us the first session is supposed to be the easiest since the chemo begins to wear down your body as time goes on. However, the doctor told her that she shouldn't expect to have too much nausea in the later sessions since they were able to mostly control it this first session. We just need to keep that baby in as long as possible and keep her from getting sick while her white blood cells are under attack from the chemo.

She hasn't started to lose hair yet. They said to expect it to start falling out after two or three weeks. We have some wigs ready to go for when that fun starts. Her next treatment is on the 20th.

On another note, I took little Keegan (3) in for a quick surgery on Monday. The hole from his umbilical cord never closed like it was supposed to so we went in to get that fixed. His outie is now an innie. He did really well and we were only at the hospital for about 4 hours. He has a very tender tummy as you would expect but is doing just fine.

That is the latest from here. Thanks for caring.

Keeley, I'm so glad that facebook told me about your blog. I'm glad to be updated on Sophia's condition. Our thoughts turn to you and your family often and our prayers always include you guys. I wish there was more that we could do for you. I'm so impressed that you are still holding your annual spring party. My kids thank you for that ;) I'm sure it will be nice to have a little fun with all the hard times you guys have experienced. Please let me and Brandon help you guys in any way - really. We look forward to seeing you guys on Saturday! Sophia is a real trooper. Give her our love! You are a great dad and husband Keeley to carry all the extra load right now. Hang in there!

Hi!
You don't know me but I met Bree and she linked me to you blog. I am a 3 year breast cancer survivor who found the cancer when I was almost 7 months pregnant. I hope you don't mind...I guess I just feel what you are going through.
I went through a lumpectomy, lymphectomy, port placement, and chemo before Brig was born. I finished chemo and radiation after his birth. The best news...we are both happy, healthy, and blessed. We're pretty tight...he and I. Been through a lot together!
My advice for now...I hope you don't mind...is to stop for a minute and feel all those prayers being said for you today. If you ever want to talk or email me...I am happy to share my experience and the things that helped. My email is thriveq@gmail.com
